Georgia runs a two-invoice system, and the second invoice is the one that catches people: pay your ticket, think you're done, then get a letter from the state demanding more — with your license as collateral.
How Super Speeder works
Get convicted of driving 75+ mph on a two-lane road, or 85+ mph anywhere in the state, and Georgia designates you a "Super Speeder." That adds a $200 state fee on top of the local fine — a separate bill, from the state, after the conviction. Miss paying it within its window and your license is suspended with an additional reinstatement fee stacked on.
The design is easy to fall into: the local fine gets paid at the county courthouse or online, feels like closure, and the state's letter arrives later to an old address. A meaningful share of Super Speeder suspensions are people who never knew about invoice number two.
Where the designations happen
- Two-lane Georgia — the 75-on-a-two-lane trigger does heavy work on the state's vast rural highway network, where 65 zones flow fast and the Super Speeder line sits 10 over.
- I-75, I-85, I-95 — the 85-anywhere trigger on interstates where traffic routinely flows in the low 80s. Three over the flow can be over the line.
- South Georgia's small towns along the Florida-bound routes run the classic town-line pattern on top of it all.
The full Georgia bill
Local fine + $200 state fee + points on your license + the standard 3-to-5 years of insurance surcharge. And out-of-state drivers aren't exempt from the fee — Georgia bills you at home, and unpaid fees chase your driving privileges through interstate agreements.
Staying under the line
Georgia's triggers are absolute numbers, which makes them the easiest kind to defend against: always know the limit, always know your margin. A voice that flags the limit — and your threshold — makes 75-on-a-two-lane a number you brush against knowingly or never at all.
